Refractions
Refractions is a piece that focuses on the exploration of the phenomenon of sonic refraction which occurs when sound transgresses through two different mediums, in this case water and air. The piece also deals with the way the motion of the medium in which sound is being produced can affect its form.
Waterproof speakers are fitted at the bottom of boxes made out of plexi-glass. The boxes are supported by a base that allows them to lean back and forth, and they are attached with a metal bar to a windscreen wiper motor. The boxes are filled with just enough water to cover the speakers completely when they are in horizontal position. A sine-tone is coming out of the two speakers, at a fixed frequency of 647 Hz.
